DPC OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY AND MARKET
Laval, Quebec, November 6, 2003
Radar systems project radio waves to "see" distant objects. Millimeter waves (MMW) can see much smaller objects than microwaves because they have much shorter wavelengths (millimeters, not centimeters to meters). Millimeter wave radar can thus discern such things as power and telephone lines, or radio and cell towers (serious hazards for helicopter pilots), or small fishing vessels (hazards for ships), or other obstacles encountered in near-shore operations, which have received priority attention in the Navy since the first Gulf War. Millimeter waves also penetrate fog, smoke, dust, sand and rain, all of which defeat the visual and laser-based systems currently used for small obstacle detection.
